Letha Irene Green was born on the 17th of April, 1919, the daughter of Joe Scott and Pearl McKee. She grew up in Cordell Oklahoma, graduated high school in 1936, and worked in Gauzin’s five and dime and the PMA office. On September 25th, 1938 she married LeRoy Green. They both resided in Cordell until LeRoy entered the Army in 1942. While Leroy served in the south pacific, she stayed with her mother and stepfather, Calvin W. George, and worked in their drug stores
in Sulpher, Sapulpa, Duncan, and Red Fork Oklahoma. When LeRoy returned from the war, they moved to Hollis, OK where she again worked in a PMA office. Some time later her mother and stepfather moved to Hollis and opened a drug store where she worked until 1957, when she and LeRoy adopted a son, John Scott Green. She stayed at home and raised him until he went to kindergarten in 1963. That same year, her mother Pearl and second husband Calvin George were involved in a car accident in which Calvin was killed. After the accident, Pearl required around the clock attention and spent most of her remaining years in nursing homes. Letha oversaw her care and spent countless hours with her until her death in 1979. In 1963, she joined LeRoy working at Green’s Frozen Foods, the meat processing plant that LeRoy had purchased in 1952. After John started college in 1975, LeRoy sold the frozen food plant and started farming operations around Cordell. During this time, Letha began to tend to the needs of two of her aunts Roxie Skelly Frederick and Lillian Skelly Carter. In addition to helping them with household chores and driving them to doctor’s appointments, she also looked after their finances. In the late 1980’s, her husband’s mother, Gay Green, became infirmed and had to enter a nursing home. Letha again became a caregiver and spent time with her almost every day….sometimes even spending the night. In her latter years, she & LeRoy moved to College Station to be close to their son. As LeRoy’s health deteriorated, she once again reprised her role as caregiver…this time to her own beloved husband. She never complained…even when she herself suffered from chronic fainting spells. Letha Green died April 15th, 2009 with her son by her side. She is survived by her Husband LeRoy Green, one brother Bobby Mckee, one son, John Scott Green, Kathy Louise Hill, Carl Lee Riles and numerous friends and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Skelley Mckee George, her father Joe Scott McKee, and one brother, Clifton Mckee.
